Julian Green

Julian Green has been incarcerated for the last 19 years. He was 19 years old when he was incarcerated for 2nd degree murder under the joint venture theory. During his incarceration, Julian enrolled at Boston University, where he graduated as an undergraduate in Interdisciplinary Studies. After graduating from Boston University, Julian continued his college education by applying for the Emerson Prison Initiative program. Julian was accepted and enrolled in EPI, and he is currently in his third year of receiving a Bachelor's degree in Media, Literature, and Journalism. Julian is also a Minnesota Law Review publisher, coauthoring with Dr. Caitlin Glass the Innocence Trap, which highlighted the voices of WAJV members and the advocacy work around WAJV.

Julian has been the architect behind the joint venture reform in Massachusetts. Stating that, "when I'm released back into society, I'll never be free. I'll never be free until every member of We Are Joint Venture has an opportunity to be released."

He was asked why he founded We Are Joint Venture? Julian answered by saying, "It's time for Massachusetts to stop creating murderers. There are too many men and women in the Department of Corrections serving Life Without Parole for murder, when they never killed anyone or ever put their hands on anyone. Being at a murder scene does not equal a person being a murderer. It's wrong, and it needs to change. I was wrongfully convicted because of how easy it is to create a narrative around joint venture." We Are Joint Venture is changing the narrative now. Our reform fight is not a moment; we are a growing movement.
